Running until May 17, the exhibition features a variety of artifacts and photographs representing cultural heritage from south China's Hainan Province, including Li brocade, Miao embroidery and Qiong opera. The first stop of the exhibition was jointly hosted by the China Cultural Center in Malta and the Hainan Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, Publications and Sports. TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken in December 2001 shows German conductor Gerd Albrecht. Albrecht died Feb. 2, 2014, in Berlin from an illness at the age of 78. He led the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra as principal conductor from 1998 to 2007 after serving as music director of Germany's Hamburg State Opera and chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic.

Toshiro MAYUZUMI (1929-1997), composer, is responsible for introducing electronic musin to Japan and his XYZ (1953) was the first Japanese work composed in the manner of musique concrete. Influenced by Buddhism and Asian cultures, in 1958 he composed the symphony ""Nehan "" (Nirvana) and in 1963 the cantata ""Keka"" (Repentance). In 1976 he composed an opera based on Mishima Yukio's novel ""Kinkakuji"" that was first performed by the Berlin Opera. Mayuzumi was also politically oriented, denying, like some right-wing Japanese politicians, Japan's wartime aggression. German conductor Wand dies at 90

BERLIN, Germany - Guenter Wand, a noted German conductor with a large following in Japan, died Feb. 14 at his home in Switzerland at the age of 90. Wand began his career as an opera conductor in Cologne in 1939 and later conducted various orchestras, including the Cologne Gurzenich Orchestra and the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra.
