The photograph is labeled L22 DAI BUTSU(SIDE). The thatched roof in the background is that of the kuri (priests' quarters). There are doors (still extant) in the Buddha's back. The Dutch Lantern,Toshogu Shrine,Nikko

The turning lantern donated by the king of the Netherlands is placed in front of the Yomei Gate. In the rear is a drum tower, and further to the rear is the Honjido. It was called Honjiido because it enshrined the Yakushinyorai, or Honji Butsu of Tokugawa Ieyasu, but at present is called Yakushido.
