TOKYO, Japan - Canon Inc. said Aug. 24 it will release a new entry-level digital single-lens reflex camera on Sept. 8, hoping to bring its domestic market share back to more than 50 percent. The EOS Kiss Digital X camera will have a 10.1 million pixel CMOS sensor and work with as many as 60 lenses, Canon said.

Sharp devises image sensor that can take photos facing sun

OSAKA, Japan - A digital camera equipped with an image sensor developed by Sharp Corp. is capable of taking clear photos even when pointed at a bright light source (bottom) in contrast with the same image taken by a conventional digital camera (top). Sharp announced on April 14 that it has jointly developed the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor with the Institute for Microelectronics Stuttgart of Germany.
