TAKAMATSU, Japan - A car is raised from the sea at Hayashida port in Sakaide, Kagawa Prefecture on Aug. 6. Police and the Japan Coast Guard recovered a total of five unidentified bodies from five cars submerged in the port in Sakaide. Each body was partly skeletonized and found in each of the cars, all registered in the prefecture, police said. (Kyodo)

TOKYO, Oct. 23 Kyodo - Shinichi Kitajima (L), Director-General of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Economic Bureau, and Fernando Valenzuela, Deputy Director-General for External Relations of the European Commission, shake hands at the Foreign Ministry on Oct. 23 after swapping notes listing each other's deregulation demand. The European Union called on Japan to set up an independent regulatory body to promote competition in its telecommunications market.
