Local residents say the developers have offered to buy their land at 3,500 yuan (about 57,000 yen) per square meter while apartment houses nearby are selling for 7,000 yuan per square meter. About 100 families have sold their land to the developers but 12 have refused. Residents say the developers have cut off water and power supply to the stand-alone houses and they were attacked by stick-wielding gangsters last month.
