Designer Ishizu dies at 93

TOKYO, Japan - Kensuke Ishizu (in photo taken in 1993), a well-known clothing designer, died of pneumonia on May 24 at a Tokyo hospital, his family said. He was 93. After establishing his brand, VAN, in 1951, Ishizu contributed to making men's Ivy League style a fashion vogue in Japan in the 1960s.

OSAKA, Japan - Tadashi Ishizu, a 14-year-old Japanese boy suffering from muscular dystrophy, prepares to leave Osaka airport Oct. 3 for the United States to realize his dream of seeing a space-shuttle launch. Ishizu will join spectators at Florida's Kennedy Space Center to witness the launch of the shuttle Discovery on Oct. 5 (Oct. 6 Japan time), according to the Japan chapter of the U.S.-based Make-A-Wish Foundation, which arranged the trip after it was contacted by Ishizu.
