As part of the voluntary repatriation effort between the Nigerian government and IOM, both parties worked to make it easier for the trapped Nigerians to return. They arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday evening. The evacuation effort is the third of its sort in 2023, according to a statement made by Kabiru Musa, charge d'affaires of the Nigerian Mission in Libya. Kabiru Musa, Charge d'affaires of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, disclosed this in a statement made available to reporters on Tuesday in Abuja, Nigeria's capital. According to Musa, the 158 repatriated Nigerians were men, women, and children that were stranded or rescued victims of human trafficking. Libya has been suffering insecurity and chaos since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, making the North African country a preferred point of departure for illegal immigrants who want to cross the Mediterranean Sea to European shores.
