A woman on the jinrikisha,Kasuga Shrine

This photo captures a scene with a woman on a rickshaw feeding deer. It is hard to pinpoint the exact location, but it is probably the shrine approach of Kasuga Taisha, as stone lanterns are in the background. The woman is wearing kimono, Japanes-style chignon, and is holding a parasol. The rickshaw man is wearing zori sandals and a hat. This is a stereograph.==Date:1904, Place:Nara, Photo:Underwood, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number97‐21‐0]

This photo was taken at the shrine approach from the Nanmon Gate (South Gate) of Kasuga Taisha facing the northerly Wakamiya Shrine with Nanmon Gate in the background. Six standing mikos (shrine maidens) and one kneeling are seen in the approach. The photographer is the same person who took catalogue #4333 and the mikos are also the same.==Date:unknown, Place:Nara, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number87‐42‐0]

Deer on the approach to Kasuga Shrine

Although the title of the photo says 'Deer at Nara Park', this photo was actually taken at the shrine approach of Kasuga Taisha capturing seven deer. A male deer in the centre and female deer surround it. Despite the fact that there are not specific objects to pinpoint the exact location, since there are no stone lanterns and the way the shoulders of the road looks like, it is assumed to have been taken about 550m east of Ichino-torii Gate when facing east.==Date:unknown, Place:Nara, Photo:R. When passing Nino-torii Gate of Kasuga Taisha Shrine and going east, this bronze deer is sitting on the left. The present day deer is the one made in 1951, and the one in the photo was its predecessor. The two deer are similar over all, however, around the eyes and the horns are slightly different. The previous bronze deer was probably donated to the government during the World War II.==Date:unknown, Place:Nara, Photo:Usui Shuzaburo?, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number65‐31‐0]

Two men standing on the approach to the sessha (sub-shrine), Wakamiya Shrine, from Kasuga Taisha Shrine are captured, which is the almost the same location as catalogue #4476. Since they have kyahan (leggings) around their ankles, they may be rickshawmen. This photo is the same as #4476 as the fact that this was taken facing north and making Nanmon Gate of Kasuga Taisha as background. However, the point of the shot is a little northerly.==Date:unknown, Place:Nara, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number54‐47‐0]
