She became the country's oldest person after Mitoyo Kawate in Hiroshima City died at 114 on Nov. 13, 2003. Yone Minagawa, 112, who lives in Akaike, Fukuoka Prefecture, has now become the oldest person in Japan, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
