Police raid ex-Katokichi exec over suspicion of document forgery

TAKAMATSU, Japan - Police agents enter the home of a former executive of major frozen food company Katokichi Co. in Mitoyo, Kagawa Prefecture, on suspicion of using falsified seals in documents of transactions between Katokichi Suisan Co., a Katokichi subsidiary, and the Osaka-based trading house T.Chatani & Co. Katokichi has allegedly been involved in so-called circular trading totaling more than 100 billion yen on fake invoices.

15,000 child porno DVDs confiscated in Sendai

NAGOYA, Japan - Stacks of child pornographic DVDs confiscated in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture are on display at Toyota police station in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture on June 15. According to the police, 15,000 child porno DVDS from seized from a Sendai mansion in what officials believe to be the single largest DVD seizure from one location. Three men were arrested in Sendai on suspicion of selling 44 child porno DVDs to two men in Aichi in December for 20,500 yen. The three suspects have allegedly been selling child porno DVDs online since August 2005, netting more than 100 million yen, police say.

Mitsui bribes Mongolian official to win aid contract

TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows the head office of major trading house Mitsui & Co. in Tokyo, which bribed a ranking Mongolian government official in 2001 to secure orders for a Japanese government-financed power project. Sources close to the case said Aug. 28 employees of Mitsui, including Yusuke Shimazaki, 39, offered more than 1 million yen to a director general-level official in charge of power and energy management at Mongolia's Infrastructure Ministry.

Mita Industrial searched over illegal dividends

Prosecutors and police search the offices of failed photocopier maker Mita Industrial Co. on Oct. 13 on suspicion it paid dividends to shareholders while in the red. Some former executives of the Osaka-based, unlisted company violated the Commercial Code by paying dividends after window-dressing the firm's earnings reports, investigative sources claimed. The company applied Aug. 10 for rescue under the Corporate Rehabilitation Law, effectively going under with debts of more than 200 billion yen.
