KYOTO, Japan - Kiyomizudera Temple in Kyoto is illuminated along with its cheery trees March 28 in preparation for the spring sightseeing season. The lighting up is an annual event that began in 1992 to allow people to visit the temple in the evening. The main hall of the Buddhist temple, built over a cliff, has a spacious veranda which affords a panoramic view of Kyoto.

TOKYO, Japan - Former leading Japanese pro wrestler Jumbo Tsuruta (in this file photo), whose real name was Tomomi Tsuruta, died May 13 in Manila, where he was receiving treatment, All Japan Pro-Wrestling Co. said May 16. He was 49. The cause of death was not disclosed at the request of his family. Tsuruta, who was hospitalized between 1992 and 1993 for hepatitis B, retired from professional wrestling in March last year.
