Stereograph produced by Underwood & Underwood Co. depicting the Negishi Bay side of Honmoku Peninsula. There are three valleys on the peninsula, and the tip was called Treaty Point by Perry. The inscription on the back says that the peninsula was called Mikado Cliff by foreigners. Nagoya Castle

Apparently a copy of a picture postcard, this photograph captures the southwestern side of the dungeon seen from Nishinomaru area. The black stone wall visible at the lower left is the wall of Ofukemaru, and the white stone wall connects Ofukemaru and Ninomaru. The right side of the main castle tower is connected to the small tower. The photograph is entitled (in English), Medieval moated castle of Japanese Princes, occasionally used by the Mikado. Nagoya, Japan . NIKKO KANAYA HOTEL

The Kanaya Hotel of Nikko was moved to the hills of Hatsuishi in 1893. Kanaya Zenichiro bought and redecorated the Mikado Hotel which was still under construction in 1892. The trees which have just been planted stand around the hotel. At both ends of the photo stand men in Western clothes. In the centre stands a man and woman dressed in kimono, and a bellboy stands inside the building. Many of the rooms have chimneys for stoves. The peaks of Mt. NIKKO KANAYA HOTEL

The Kanaya Hotel of Nikko moved to the hill in Hatsuishi-machi in 1893. The Mikado Hotel under construction was bought and redecorated by Kanaya Zenichiro in 1892. An electric pole stands in the right side of the photo, and many rickshaws await passengers.
