TAKAYAMA, Japan - The three survivors of a avalanche that killed four climbers from two mountain-climbing groups on Mt. Yarigatake in Gifu Prefecture earlier this week descend the mountain unaided on Jan. 2. The seven climbers were sleeping inside two nearby tents on a 2,000-meter-high slope of Mt. Yarigatake when the avalanche struck at around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, local officials say. The bodies of the four climbers were recovered earlier Jan. 2.
