Speaking during a telephone call with the national broadcaster, Abela said that according to calculations by party agents as vote counting got underway, his party had a significant majority over the Nationalist Party (PN). The election held on Saturday was characterised by a record low turnout since independence, at 85.5 percent, just over 303,500 votes. STORY: Malta's chemical tanker stranded due to strong winds, heavy waves DATELINE: March 20, 2022 LENGTH: 00:01:05 LOCATION: NAXXAR, Malta CATEGORY: SOCIETY SHOTLIST: 1. various of the stranded chemical tanker STORYLINE: A chemical tanker on Saturday morning was stranded at the Bahar ic-Caghaq coast of the city Naxxar, Malta, in very rough seas caused by strong winds, forcing the deployment of tug boats to keep it from running aground. So far, due to the continuing strong winds, the tanker has not got out of the trouble. Maltese Transport Minister Ian Borg said in a facebook post that the Transport Malta is assisting the rescue operation for the 209-meter tanker and confirmed the risk of pollution is very low. The tanker's crew was unable to get the tanker's anchor to hold, and the tanker was on way to Marsaxlokk, a southern port of Malta, from the Spanish port of Algeciras in Cadiz, according to the Maltese media report.
