Huge plumes of smoke were visible from flights arriving and departing from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) as a wildfire rapidly spread through Pacific Palisades fueled by Santa Ana winds on Tuesday, January 7. The fire has scorched more than 2,900 acres, prompting the evacuation of nearly 30,000 residents and causing several road closures. TOKYO, Japan - Erroneous data were discovered Feb. 29 at 43 of some 1,300 regional meteorological observation sites in Japan, the result of a computer glitch stemming from an irregular leap year that occurs once every 400 years. The photo shows a computer screen indicating precipitation in Shikoku based on data provided by the Automated Meteorological Data Acquisition System (AMeDAS) of the Meteorological Agency. It indicates high levels of rainfall in various parts of the island when there is actually no rainfall.
