Maresuke Nogi (1849-1912) of the now-defunct Imperial Japanese Army, a hero of the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War, which an antiquarian bookstore in Tokyo has acquired and plans to exhibit at a Tokyo antique book fair to be held between Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, 2011. Nogi is believed to have written the letter in August 1900 to his younger brother, who apparently asked Nogi to find a job for one of their relatives, while Nogi was stationed in Kagawa Prefecture, western Japan.
