Railway fare cards to become mutually usable

TOKYO, Japan - Representatives of railway and bus operators pose with their respective electronic fare cards in a gathering at the East Japan Railway Co. head office in Tokyo on Dec. 18, 2012. A total of 10 regional railway and bus fare cards such as Suica and Pasmo in Tokyo and Icoca in Osaka will become mutually usable in all their operating areas in Japan, starting March 23, 2013.

SAITAMA, Japan - A demonstrator carrying the ''Pasmo'' IC fare card passes through a JR trains ticket barrier at Omiya station in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, in a demonstration to the media on Feb. 18 ahead of its debut on March 18. The Pasmo card will allow passengers to ride trains, including subways, as well as buses operated by about 60 different companies in Tokyo and neighboring prefectures using a single IC card, the card operator Pasmo Co. said.
