8,000 cyclists take part in Cycling Shimanami event

MATSUYAMA, Japan - Cyclists ride on the Tatara Bridge, part of the Nishiseto Expressway, commonly known as Shimanami Kaido, during the Cycling Shimanami event on Oct. 26, 2014. The event was held using part of Shimanami Kaido, which is a 60 kilometer toll road that connects the city of Onomichi in Hiroshima Prefecture, on the main Japan island of Honshu, to the city of Imabari in Ehime Prefecture, on the island of Shikoku.

New Honshu-Shikoku speedway to open in a month

A new speedway linking Japan's main islands of Honshu and Shikoku will open May 1, after 25 years under construction. The 60-kilometer speedway between Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, and Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, is the 3rd and last one linking the two main islands over the Seto Inland Sea in western Japan.
