Japanese hand-made paper shortlisted for UNESCO heritage status

SAITAMA, Japan - Teizo Takano, leader of a group of artisans producing "Hosokawashi" traditional Japanese hand-made paper in Saitama Prefecture, makes the paper in the village of Higashichichibu in the prefecture on Oct. 17, 2014. Mizuno will succeed Teizo Taya, a former managing director of the Daiwa Institute of Research, whose five-year term on the central bank board expires Dec. 2.

Teizo Hori, the representative of Tonosawa Village, gave Tamanoyu Inn to Takashi Koyasu, the owner of the Yomiuri Newspaper, who built Shin (New)-Tamanoyu Inn. The street on the left, for cart traffic, opened between Tonosawa and Miyanoshita in 1887.
