Takiguchi, Motoya share Akutagawa award, Aoyama wins Naoki Prize

Novelists Yukiko Motoya (C) and Yusho Takiguchi (R), winners of the Akutagawa Prize for up-and-coming authors, and Bumpei Aoyama, winner of the Naoki Prize for popular fiction, hold up their award-winning works while posing for a photo at a hotel in Tokyo on Jan. 19, 2016. The Chokugaku-mon Gate of Yusho-in Reibyo, Zojoji Temple, Shiba

The tomb of the Seventh Shogun Ietsugu which was located to the north of Bunshoin. The Chokugaku Gate had bronze roof tiles and was cornered with Chinese-style bargeboards, and the sides have Chinese-style gates with four legs in chidori bargeboards. Dragon carvings can be observed on the pillars. The Chokugaku-mon Gate of Yusho-in Reibyo, Zojoji Temple, Shiba

Chokugaku Gate at Yushoin Mausoleum, located outside the Hall of Worship, is viewed from the southeast. Although probably staged, the photograph depicts a man kneeling on the stone steps and a Buddhist monk touching the gatepost engraved with dragons. The Chokugaku-mon Gate of Yusho-in Reibyo, Zojoji Temple, Shiba

Chokugaku Gate is viewed from the northeast, outside Yushoin Mausoleum. Dragons are engraved on the gateposts. Many photographs were taken of these dragons because of their excellent craftsmanship, and many still remain. This photograph of the front corridor was taken from a location closer to the Hall of Worship than #4163. The floor on the corridors to the right, left and front are paved in shihansekijiki (square stone) style. There are no walls between the columns. As the name Chokugakumon ( gate with an imperial inscription ) implies, there is a plaque with the word Yushoin written by Emperor Nakamikado. The Chokugaku-mon Gate of Yusho-in Reibyo, Zojoji Temple, Shiba

Chokugakumon is a four-legged gate built in the kirizuma (gabled roof) style with karahafu (undulating bargeboard) in front and back, and a copper roof. The roof visible in the back is that of the bell tower. A see-through fence is built on both sides of the gate. The fence surrounds the front precinct of the Hall of Worship and connects to the right and left corridors of Karamon Gate. Zojoji is one of the six head temples of the Jodoshu, and is the tomb place of the Tokugawa family. Yushoin is the Buddhist name of the seventh Shogun Tokugawa Ietsugu.
