Yakuza nabbed for stealing Peko-chan doll

WAKAYAMA, Japan - Peko-chan mascot dolls, which were retrieved from recycle shops in the city of Osaka, are stored at a police station in the city of Wakayama. Police said on Sept. 2 they have arrested Hiroshi Inaba, an executive of a crime syndicate, for allegedly stealing a Peko-chan mascot doll from a store of confectionery maker Fujiya Co. in Wakayama. The dolls are thought to trade for around 150,000 yen (about $1,600) to 200,000 yen among collectors.

About 150,000 people in H.K. commemorate Tiananmen massacre

Aeon group opens 150,000-sq-meter shopping mall in western Tokyo

MUSASHIMURAYAMA, Japan - The Aeon Co. group opened a new large-scale shopping mall, one of the largest in Tokyo with a total floor space of about 150,000 square meters, at the site of a former Nissan Motor Co. automobile plant located between the cities of Musashimurayama and Tachikawa in western Tokyo on Nov. 18. In addition to an outlet of the group's Jusco supermarket chain and a Mitsukoshi department store, the mall contains some 180 specialty stores and restaurants.

Season's first crop of 'Yubari' melon fetches 150,000 yen

SAPPORO, Japan - These ''Yubari'' melons, the season's first crop grown at a Hokkaido farm, were knocked down to a Sapporo department store for 150,000 yen (about 1,170 dollars at current exchange rate) apiece in an auction held May 14. Ozeki Chiyotaikai given hero's welcome at hometown
