Statesman Okuma Shigenobu obviously liked plants because there were three greenhouses at his residence. A Tokyo magazine reported in 1907 that, There is a second greenhouse attached to the house, with one main room and two annexed rooms containing rare tropical plants. A lighthouse in Bizen

Although the photograph is entitled BIZEN on the lower left, this is Sugashima Lighthouse located at the northeastern tip of Sugashima (present-day Toba City, Mie Prefecture) at the entrance to Ise Bay. Designed by British engineer R. H. Brunton and first lit on July 1, 1873, the lighthouse is still in operation today. The attached residence was relocated to Meiji Mura Museum and designated an Important Cultural Asset by the Japanese government.
