The Chokugaku-mon Gate of Yusho-in Reibyo, Zojoji Temple, Shiba

Chokugakumon is a four-legged gate built in the kirizuma (gabled roof) style with karahafu (undulating bargeboard) in front and back, and a copper roof. The roof visible in the back is that of the bell tower. A see-through fence is built on both sides of the gate. The fence surrounds the front precinct of the Hall of Worship and connects to the right and left corridors of Karamon Gate. The northwestern part of Hiunkaku at Nishihonganji Temple is viewed from the north side of the pond in Tekisui Garden. Hiunkaku is said to be a part of a mansion built in the Momoyama Period. It is a three-story, cypress-shingle roofed, palace-style building. The north and south sides are about 25.8m long, the east side about 11.8m and the west side about 12.5m. The Chokugaku-mon Gate of Yusho-in Reibyo, Zojoji Temple, Shiba

Zojoji is one of the six head temples of Jodoshin Sect and contains the tombs of the Tokugawa family. Yushoin is the Buddhist name of the seventh Shogun Tokugawa Ietsugu. The Chokugaku Gate has a bronze tiled roof. There is a Chinese bargeboard, and the sides are a four pillared Chinese Gate with chidori bargeboard. From left to right are the Gyosuisha, Rinzo (turning storage box for scriptures) and bronze torii. The water basin and 12-angled pillar are made of granite, and a carving of cod and flying dragons is carved on the bargeboard. In the Rinzo are placed a set of scriptures and a father and son statue of Fudaishi (founder of the Rinzo system of storing scriptures ). The torii made of Chinese bronze was built by donations from the private allowance of Tokugawa Hidetada.
