Nagoya vendor blackmailed by importers over knockoff mufflers

NAGOYA, Japan - Koji Matsumoto, president of a Nagoya-based distributor of Burberry wool mufflers, tells a news conference in Nagoya on Sept. 7 that the wholesaler, Matsumoto, has received a blackmail threat and implicit demand for money from its importer because they are fakes. He said the wholesaler will file a complaint against the importer with police.

Aeon to recall Burberry mufflers due to possible fakes

TOKYO, Japan - Aeon Co. New 500 yen coins launched in bid to curb fakes

TOKYO, Japan - New 500 yen coins put in circulation Aug. 1 are designed to prevent the use of forged coins in vending machines. The new coins are almost the same in size, weight and design as the current 500 yen silver-colored coins, but have a slightly yellowish hue. Zinc has been added to the coins to change their electrical conductivity as a way to prevent vending machines from accepting bogus ones.
