Matsushita cord phone set receives incoming fax on screen

OSAKA, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. has released a cordless phone set that receives a fax on the screen, instead of printing out, with no fax sending capabilities. The fax data, as well as voice recordings, can be stored in the machine's internal memory or in an SD memory card. The machine, Otakkusu Junior VE-GP62DL, retails for about 20,000 yen.

Brother to sell fax machine that can scare off intruder

NAGOYA, Japan - Brother Industries Ltd. said on Jan. 27 it will launch in February a fax machine and an optional infrared sensor (photo) that can be used to scare off intruders with an alarm. The sensor, which can be placed up to 40 meters away from the fax machine, can sense an approaching human or animal, and if it catches such a signal, it will automatically make a phone call in 30 seconds to numbers registered in the machine.

Sharp unveils fax equipped with digital camera

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows a facsimile terminal equipped with a digital camera which Sharp Corp. unveiled July 8. The company said it will release the new product on Aug. 2 for the first time in the world. TOKYO, Japan - Osaka Mayor Takafumi Isomura (L) submits the city's candidacy to hold the 2008 Summer Olympics to Yushiro Yagi, president of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), in Tokyo on Jan. 25. Upon receiving the candidacy, the JOC informed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of Osaka's bid by fax the same day.
