90 people trapped in ski lift gondolas in Nagano Pref., rescued

VILLAGE OF OTAKI, Japan - A man is escorted after being rescued from a troubled ski lift gondola at the ''Ontake 2240'' ski resort in the village of Otaki, Nagano Prefecture, on Dec. 15. Ninety people were trapped inside gondolas as a ski lift came to a sudden stop earlier in the day. Two women were hospitalized for not feeling well after the incident.

Giant Ferris wheel debuts in Osaka

OSAKA, Japan - A giant Ferris wheel 77 meters high debuts on March 17 along the Dotombori Canal in Osaka's Minami district. Discount store chain Don Quijote Co. unveiled the Ferris wheel to coincide with the opening of its Dotombori branch. The wheel has 32 four-seat gondolas and takes about 15 minutes to go around.
