Survivor Hopes To Bring Smiles For Children With Maze

FUKUSHIMA, JAPAN - APR. 25: A survivor of 2011 mega earthquake and tsunami in Fukushima Prefecture has turned his fields of rape flowers into a maze, wishing to bring back smile and laughter to children in the disaster-hit areas. Takayuki Ueno made the two-hector large maze with fellow volunteers who are searching for those still missing in tsunami just in a few days ahead of Japans spring holiday season between late April and early May. Ueno lost his parents and two children in the disaster that killed tens of thousands in Japan but started growing sunflower one year after the tragedy.

Lifting Of Cover Panels End At Fukushima Nuke Plant

FUKUSHIMA, JAPAN – OCT. 5: The last of six panels of the cover shrouding the No. 1 reactor building of the disaster-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant was lifted on October 5. The lifting of cover panels, each of which is 42-meter long and seven-meter wide, started on July 28 as part of works to dismantle the plant. Tokyo Electric Power Co., the plant operator, said the next step will be a 1.5-year-long job to take away its wall panels and put on windbreak sheets instead, before trying to retrieve nuclear fuels from the pool by March 2021. The Fukushima plant caused serious melt down after hit by a mega earthquake and following tsunami on March 11 2011.
