Sony to market 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera June 1

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Corp. said on May 14 it will put on the market on June 1 what it claims to be the world's first compact digital camera (in handout photo) with a resolution of 12.1 megapixels. The new camera, called Cyber-shot DSC-W200, measures 58.5 millimeters high, 91 mm wide and 27.3 mm deep. The price is open but the product is expected to retail for about 50,000 yen. (Kyodo)

Sony to launch card-sized video camera

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Marketing (Japan) Inc. will put on sale the world's smallest and lightest video camera (photo) on the domestic market Oct. 18, the company said Sept. 3. The 1.07 megapixel DCR-IP1K video camera is almost the same size as a card, measuring 39 millimeters in width, 91mm in height and 69mm in length, and weighing 230 grams, excluding the battery. Canon to launch digital cameras with direct-print capability

TOKYO, Japan - Canon Inc. said Oct. 9 it will introduce in Japan in late October new 3X optical zoom compact digital cameras with direct-print capability. The 4-megapixel PowerShot S40 (in handout photo) and the 3.2-megapixel PowerShot S30 can ''realize effortless photo-quality image printing,'' when connected via cable to the optional BJ F890PD printer, a company spokesman said. The PowerShot S40 is priced at 99,800 yen, the PowerShot S30 89,800 yen and the BJ F890PD 64,800 yen.
