UNDP envoy urges int'l help for Palestinians

JERUSALEM, Israel - Misako Konno, goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), urges the international community in Jerusalem on July 25 to continue financial support for the Palestinians, which she said is necessary to close the gap in living standards with the Israelis. Konno, a Japanese actress named to the honorary UNDP post two years ago, made the plea at a news conference in the Israeli capital after a four-day tour of Palestinian refugee camps in the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian autonomous areas.
