Sony to release new Alpha 700 digital SLR camera in November

The company asked retailers in China on March 17, 2014, not to sell the D600 after Shanghai authorities ordered a local Nikon unit to take the camera off its shelves. President Michio Kariya said in a recent interview that the Tokyo-based company has no intention of competing head-on with Canon Inc. in the world's fast-growing digital single-lens reflex camera market. Noting that the corporate size of Nikon is much smaller than Canon's, Kariya said his company thinks it is important to offer new types of cameras to consumers when its chief rival does not do so, instead of vying with similar price-range products around the same time.

TOKYO, Japan - Canon Inc. said Aug. 24 it will release a new entry-level digital single-lens reflex camera on Sept. 8, hoping to bring its domestic market share back to more than 50 percent. The EOS Kiss Digital X camera will have a 10.1 million pixel CMOS sensor and work with as many as 60 lenses, Canon said.

OSAKA, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will release the world's smallest and lightest digital single-lens reflex camera Lumix G1 on Oct. 31. Matsushita has adopted a new standard, the Micro Four Thirds System, that it has developed jointly with camera maker Olympus Corp. to eliminate the mirror box and dramatically reduce the size and weight of a DSLR, the company said.
