Photo taken on Dec. 10, 2022, shows a booth introducing the popular Japanese manga series "Golden Kamuy" at the Historical Village of Hokkaido, an open-air museum featuring relocated and restored buildings from 1868 to 1920, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in northern Japan. Many of the buildings at the museum are featured in the manga written and illustrated by Satoru Noda as the story is set in Hokkaido in the aftermath of the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905).

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows a letter handwritten by Gen. Maresuke Nogi (1849-1912) of the now-defunct Imperial Japanese Army, a hero of the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War, which an antiquarian bookstore in Tokyo has acquired and plans to exhibit at a Tokyo antique book fair to be held between Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, 2011. Nogi is believed to have written the letter in August 1900 to his younger brother, who apparently asked Nogi to find a job for one of their relatives, while Nogi was stationed in Kagawa Prefecture, western Japan.

TOKYO, Japan - The Bukgwandaecheopbi monument at Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, which was built in memory of Korean Admiral Li Sun Sin who fought against Japanese expeditions launched by warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537-1598) to conquer Korea in the late 1590s, was returned to South Korea on Oct. 12. The monument had been kept at the shrine after Japanese forces brought it to Japan during the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War.

Born on Nov. 28, 1847 in Yamaguchi Prefecture and deceased on Oct. 10, 1913. Katsura served as prime minister three times -- between June 2, 1901 and Jan. 7, 1906; between July 14, 1908 and Aug. 30, 1911; and between Dec. 21, 1912 and Feb. 20, 1913. During his terms in office as prime minister, Japan signed the 1902 Anglo-Japanese Alliance, won the 1904-05 Russo-Japanese War and annexed Korea, becoming a major imperialist power in East Asia.

The Dogger Bank Incident (or 'Russian Outrage') occured on the 22nd October 1904, when the Russian Fleet (sailing to reinforce the 1st Pacific Squadron stationed at Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese War) mistook 48 harmless British trawlers at Dogger Bank for an Imperial Japanese Navy force, leading to the loss of life of three British seamen, two by drowning and one from shock a year later. This card shows the damaged trawler 'Moulmein' and its crew, lucky to have returned to port alive. Date: 1904

Patriotic Shrine - Paiyushan - Lushunkou (a district in the municipality of Dalian, Liaoning province, also called Lushun City or Lushun Port, formerly known as both Port Arthur and Ryojun). The South Manchuria Railway Company (Mantetsu) - was a company founded in the Empire of Japan in 1906, taken over after the Russo-Japanese War, and operated within China in the Japanese-controlled South Manchuria Railway Zone. The railway itself ran from Lushun Port (Port Arthur) at the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula to Harbin, where it connected to the Chinese Eastern Railway. Date: circa 1920s
