Environment minister Hosono joins decontamination work

FUKUSHIMA, Japan - Environment Minister Goshi Hosono (R front) scrapes off the topsoil of a residential garden in Date, Fukushima Prefecture, on Nov. 13, 2011, to decontaminate radioactive materials from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in the prefecture with around 60 volunteer workers.

Narita Express scrapes maintenance vehicle, no injuries reported

TOKYO, Japan - An express train (L) bound for Narita international airport scrapes a conveyer belt of a railway track maintenance vehicle on Sept. 3 in Tokyo, but no injuries were reported. East Japan Railway Co. said both vehicles scraped each other when the conveyer belt stuck out over a fence separating the tracks between JR's Shibuya and Ebisu Station.

Asashoryu scrapes 7th win to share lead with Hakuho, Tochiozan

TOKYO, Japan - Yokozuna Asashoryu (R) gives a late shove to Yoshikaze after the No.2 maegashira was already over the straw ridge, scraping a 7th win at the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan on Jan. 17. The yokozuna retained his share of the lead heading into the second week of the tourney with Hakuho and Tochiozan.

OSAKA, Japan - Workers inspect the tail of a Japan Airlines Boeing 737-800 which scraped the runway upon landing at Kansai International Airport outside Osaka on Oct. 4. The tailskid, a gear to protect the body of planes from scraping, was damaged, officials say. No-one on the plane was hurt.
