Technology to etch Kai semiconductor with fluoroplastic instead of CFC gas

Technology to etch Kai semiconductor with fluoroplastic instead of CFC gas

The established technology will be used for dry etching, thin film formation and cleaning of silicon. Easy-to-handle gases such as argon and nitrogen are irradiated onto solid fluoropolymers to generate fluorine-containing gas. The gas is then used for plasma treatment. Using a proto device with electrodes developed for special equipment, the company irradiated nitrogen gas and etched a glass substrate, and was able to etch 40 nanometers in one minute. The company plans to achieve an etching speed of 200 nanometers for commercialization. Plasma is an unstable state in which electrons have been removed from molecules, and it modifies the surface of materials, improving adhesion and cleaning effects. Osaka University's compact and lightweight flexible thermoelectric conversion device

Osaka University's compact and lightweight flexible thermoelectric conversion device

Associate Professor Toru Sugawara of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, Osaka University, and Assistant Professor Kenzo Iwayano of the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, and their colleagues have succeeded in reducing the size and weight of a flexible thermoelectric conversion device in which semiconductor chips are mountedon a flexible substrate. The new device converts the temperature difference between the two ends of the semiconductor into electrical information, and is equipped with a high density of about 200 ultra-small semiconductor chips per square centimeter, achieving high heat recovery efficiency and operational reliability. The flexible device, which was developed in 2018, has been improved. The new device uses semiconductor chips that are precisely aligned in size through ultra-fine processing that exceeds conventional methods. Equipment used in experiments at Kochi University of Technology

Professor Tetsuya Yamamoto and his colleagues at Kochi University of Technology and the Technical Research Institute of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. have developed a technology that can change the characteristics and add functions to oxide semiconductors in the same equipment after stabilizing them using negative oxygen ions in the deposition process. The process is a highly efficient way to create negative ions of oxygen in a plasma thin film deposition system and attract them to the substrate side by applying a voltage. Prof. Yamamoto is also scheduled to deliver a keynote speech on this theme at an international conference on film formation technology hosted by a German film formation equipment manufacturer in March 2008. Sharp forms CPU on glass substrate

Sharp forms CPU on glass substrate

OSAKA, Japan - Sharp Corp. said on Oct. 22 it has succeeded in forming an 8-bit central processing unit (CPU) on a glass substrate (photo), paving the way for the development of futuristic ultra-thin ''sheet computers'' and ''sheet television sets.'' The first technology of its kind in the world was developed jointly by Sharp and Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co. in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, on the basis of their jointly developed continuous grain (CG) silicon technology. The technology could lead to the development of notebook personal computers and 15-inch TVs as thin as 1 mm and weighing only around 300 grams. (Kyodo)
