Honda to sell CR-Z hybrid sports car priced from 2.27 mil. yen

TOKYO, Japan - Honda Motor Co. will sell its CR-Z gasoline-electric hybrid sports car (photo) at a starting retail price as low as 2.27 million yen. Honda has set the price of the two-seater, which will be launched Feb. 26 in Japan as the world's first hybrid sports car, lower than conventional sports cars in a bid to draw new customers who are interested in high operational performance when driving at a high speed. Mercedes-Benz Japan Co., an arm of the German automaker, said Oct. 12, 2010, that it has started test runs of the electric vehicle on public roads in Japan ahead of the planned release of the compact car in or after 2012.
