China: Melting Snow Due To High Temperatures Causes Flooding In Taklamakan Desert, Xinjiang

A woman who was there for an off-road trip discovered significant flooding across the desert landscape, with water levels reaching as deep as one meter in certain areas, resulting in vehicles that were difficult to drive or even stalled. The local Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography described the phenomenon in an interview as a river overflow caused by high temperatures melting snow on nearby mountains, and that it actually happens once a year and is not uncommon. In particular, this year's high temperatures and heavy precipitation in Xinjiang in July led to extra snow melt.

This is a distant view of Kiyomizu Temple, said to have been founded by the priest Keijun who came to Nagasaki with a Buddhist statue in 1623. Historical documents state that the Kawarado (tiled temple building) in the centre, which was modeled after Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto with stone handrails surrounding it, was donated by Matsukura Shigemasa, lord of Shimabara Castle. The main temple building was added by Chinese resident He Gaocai in 1668. It is rather uncommon to use an arched doorway other than in the front hallway.
