Yakushi-do Temple,Motomura,Yokohama

Motomachi, located at the foot of the Yamate area, was established when the residents of Yokohama Village moved here at the time of the opening of the port. Zotokuin Temple was located at the end of the main street (present day Motomachi-Dori). The building in this photograph is the Yakushi-do next to the main hall. Located at the foot of the hill, Motomachi was created when displaced residents of the old Yokohama Village moved here after the opening of the port. Motomachi prospered as a commercial centre catering to foreign residents of the settlement.
