Thai farmers rally for debt reli

Some 5,000 farmers from Thailand's impoverished northeast rally before parliament June 24 seeking establishment of a state fund to relieve their debts and rehabilitate the agricultural sector. The farmers are also demanding the government abandon the 17.2 billion dollar rescue package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), saying it only benefits ''rich'' people. ==Kyodo
