Leaders of Japan, S. Korea hold summit

Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi (R) shakes hands with South Korean President Kim Dae Jung after signing a joint declaration at the end of the summit talks at the Akasaka state guesthouse in Tokyo on Oct. 8. In the declaration Japan expressed ''deep remorse'' and offered its ''heartfelt apology'' to the South Korean people for Japan's colonization of the Korean Peninsula between 1910 and 1945.
