3 Airlines run test flights for Y2K glitches

TOKYO, Japan - Transport Minister Jiro Kawasaki (third from L) prepares to board a jumbo jet of Japan Airlines (JAL) at Haneda airport on the night of Sept. 13. The plane ran a test flight from late Sept. 13 to early Sept. 14 to check that the computer system had been successfully reprogrammed to prevent Y2K-related computer glitches. The date was temporarily switched to ''Dec. 31, 1999.'' When it changed to ''Jan. 1, 2000,'' the airline checked to see that the cockpit control panel functioned properly.
