Imperial family holds poetry reading ceremony
TOKYO, Japan - Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko (on the left, seated at desks) take part in the annual New Year's poetry reading ceremony, called ''Utakai-hajime no Gi,'' at Imperial Palace on Jan. 14. Japanese ''waka'' poems written by the royal family and members of the general public were read.
