Nissan to release hybrid car

TOKYO, Japan - A handout photo shows a hybrid car combining a 1,800-cc gasoline engine with an electric traction motor which Nissan Motor Co. will release in April. Nissan said March 23 the Tino HYBRID achieves a twofold improvement in fuel economy and a more than 50% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared with gasoline-engine vehicles of the same class.

Toyota launches redesigned Passo compact car

Honda to sell CR-Z hybrid sports car priced from 2.27 mil. yen

TOKYO, Japan - Honda Motor Co. will sell its CR-Z gasoline-electric hybrid sports car (photo) at a starting retail price as low as 2.27 million yen. Honda has set the price of the two-seater, which will be launched Feb. 26 in Japan as the world's first hybrid sports car, lower than conventional sports cars in a bid to draw new customers who are interested in high operational performance when driving at a high speed. Electric garbage collection truck devised

Yanase Honorary Chairman Jiro Yanase dies at 91

TOKYO, Japan -Jiro Yanase (file photo), honorary chairman of Yanase & Co., who pioneered the auto import business in Japan, died March 13 at a Tokyo hospital of pneumonia at age 91, his family said. Yanase, who was ran the imported car dealership for over half a century, was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in the United States in 2004.

Toyota releases all-new, higher-end minivan hybrid

NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. on June 12 marketed in Japan a completely redesigned, higher-end minivan hybrid (in photo), whose mileage has improved to 20 kilometers per liter of gasoline, a fuel economy comparable to that of a compact car, thanks to use of a smaller motor and battery. The seven-seater, four-wheel-drive Estima G with a 2.4-liter engine also boasts better acceleration and sells for 4.41 million yen, about 500,000 yen more expensive than comparable gasoline-powered vehicles, Toyota Motor said. Toyota unveils high-end Lexus luxury car

TOKYO, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. Vice President Kazuo Okamoto stands beside a Lexus luxury car brand's high-end model, the LS, at a press conference in Tokyo on April 26. The company plans to put the LS on sale as the successor to the Celsior in Japan in September. Toyota plans to launch a gasoline-fueled version powered by a 4.6-liter engine in September and a gasoline-electric hybrid version next spring. Toyota to present advanced eco-friendly vehicle at Tokyo Motor S

TOKYO, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. said Oct. 11 it will unveil the Fine-X (in handout photo), a new concept model for environmentally friendly fuel-cell hybrid vehicles that emit only water, at the Tokyo Motor Show beginning on Oct. 22. The vehicle employs Toyota's fuel-cell hybrid system that requires chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen as fuel to generate electricity. It also features unusually smooth drive thanks to ''four-wheel independent drive control and large, steering angle mechanism,'' the carmaker said. (Kyodo)
