U.S. not to compromise on Futemma issue
WASHINGTON, United States - The United States will not offer a new proposal to revive stalled talks with Japan over the relocation of the U.S. military's Futemma air base (shown in this file photo) in Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, a senior U.S. official said in Washington on May 31. If Tokyo sticks to Okinawa Prefecture's demand for a 15-year limit on the military's use of a new airport to handle the helicopter operations of the air base, the relocation will be delayed substantially, the official said on condition of anonymity.
