1st meeting of Council on Economic, Fiscal Policy held

TOKYO, Japan - The cabinet of Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori holds the first meeting of the newly established Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy at the premier's official residence in Tokyo on Jan. 6. Modeled after the U.S. government's National Economic Council, the panel includes private-sector experts as well as cabinet members.           TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows leading contenders for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's (LDP) three top posts and the post of top government spokesman expected to be named by newly elected LDP President Junichiro Koizumi. Mori accepted Nukaga's resignation and appointed Taro Aso, a former Economic Planning Agency chief, as his replacement.
