Cloud-related sales for the April-September period were 5.2 billion yen, up 60% from the same period last year. In the fiscal year ending March 2020, the company expects to achieve 10 billion yen, up about 33% from the fiscal year ending March 2007. The use of cloud computing has been supported by client companies for its ability to achieve short-term system implementation and optimization. Obic 7 Cloud is a cloud-based service that provides accounting, HR, attendance, business, and industry solutions. The company says that cloud adoption among its entire customer base is around 30%. The company has a high market share in ERP for small and medium-sized businesses. Ex-Paloma chief indicted over poisoning death of gas heater user

TOKYO, Japan - Former Paloma Industries Ltd. President Toshihiro Kobayashi (file photo), along with another former official of the water heater maker, was indicted without arrest Dec. 11 over the death from carbon monoxide poisoning of a user of one of the company's heaters and injury to the user's brother in 2005, prosecutors said.

Japan's oldest person dies at 114

FUKUOKA, Japan - Ura Koyama (in undated file photo), the oldest person in Japan, died of pneumonia on April 5 aged 114 at a hospital in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, her family said. She became the country's oldest person after Mitoyo Kawate in Hiroshima City died at 114 on Nov. 13, 2003. Yone Minagawa, 112, who lives in Akaike, Fukuoka Prefecture, has now become the oldest person in Japan, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

Ex-treasure of LDP faction gets suspended term over donation

TOKYO, Japan - The Tokyo District Court on Dec. 3 sentences Toshiyuki Takigawa (file photo), a former treasurer of a powerful faction of the Liberal Democratic Party, to 10 months in prison, suspended for four years, for not reporting the authorities a 100 million yen donation from the Japan Dental Association. Centenarians in Japan total record 23,000

TOKYO, Japan - Ura Koyama (file photo), of Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, is the oldest person in Japan at 114. The number of centenarians in Japan will total a record 23,038 by the end of this month, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said Sept. 14 ahead of Sept. 20 Respect for the Aged Day.

Daughter of ex-Saitama gov. gets suspended prison term

TOKYO, Japan - The Tokyo District Court on March 17 sentenced Momoko Ichikawa (file photo), a daughter of former Saitama Gov. Yoshihiko Tsuchiya, to 18 months in prison, suspended for four years, for embezzlement and falsification of reports on political donations. The court said Ichikawa illegally excluded 116 million yen in donations from reports on her father's political funds between 1998 and 2002. (Kyodo)
