Ex-health official Matsumura gets suspended term for AIDS death
TOKYO, Japan - Akihito Matsumura (file photo), a former senior official of the health and welfare ministry, was sentenced by the Tokyo District Court on Sept. 28 to a year in prison suspended for two years for causing the AIDS death of a liver patient by failing to stop the use of HIV-contaminated blood products in the 1980s.
