Japanese, English voice recognition system set up for deaf

SAPPORO, Japan - A man demonstrates a voice recognition system that instantly converts Japanese or English into subtitles displayed on monitors along with the speaker's face. The system, developed by Toru Ifukube, a Hokkaido University professor, and systems development firm B.U.G., Inc., will be used Oct. 15-18 at the Sixth World Assembly of the Disabled Peoples' International in Sapporo.
