China sets 17.6% military hike for 2002
BEIJING, China - Chinese Finance Minister Xiang Huaicheng presents the country's state budget to the National People's Congress (NPC) on March 6. He told the national legislature that China will raise its military budget by 17.6% in 2002 to create a more high-tech fighting force to ''better safeguard national sovereignty.''
