High court overturns ruling on textbook screening

TOKYO, Japan - Nobuyoshi Takashima, 60, a professor at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa Prefecture, speaks with the media in Tokyo on May 29 after the Tokyo High Court overturned a lower court decision and dismissed a suit filed by him demanding 1 million yen in compensation for the government's 1992 textbook screenings. Ruling on secret Okinawa return deal

TOKYO, Japan - Takichi Nishiyama, a former reporter for major Japanese daily The Mainichi Shimbun, holds a press conference in Tokyo on July 14, 2014, after he and other plaintiffs lost a lawsuit against the state over the disclosure of secret diplomatic documents concerning the 1972 reversion of Okinawa to Japan from U.S. control. The court barred the Tokyo metropolitan government from expropriating land in Akiruno, western Tokyo, for a state project to build a 300-kilometer highway ringing Tokyo and four neighboring prefectures.

Ruling ordering state compensation in O-157 case upheld
