Japan to recommend Kii holy grounds to UNESCO heritage list

TOKYO, Japan - The Cultural Affairs Agency decided Dec. 6 to recommend the holy grounds and pilgrimage path (in file photo) in the Kii mountains, western Japan, to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The proposed site comprises holy grounds of three religions -- Shinto, Buddhism and Shugendo -- and the pilgrimage path that links them. The area covers Mie, Nara and Wakayama prefectures. (Kyodo)
