Damages given over base noise
TACHIKAWA, Japan - One of plaintiffs holds a banner telling their supporters of their victory after the Hachioji branch of the Tokyo District Court ordered the government May 13 to pay around 160 million yen in compensation to 242 out of the 325 people who sued the government over aircraft noise at the U.S. forces' Yokota air base in western Tokyo. But the court rejected the plaintiffs' other demands for a ban on night flights and for damages from future aircraft noise. (Kyodo)
