UNESCO panel demands new committee to restore Iraqi assets
TOKYO, Japan - Ikuo Hirayama, president of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, addresses the opening session of the Third UNESCO Experts' Meeting on the Safeguarding of the Iraqi Cultural Heritage in Tokyo on Aug. 1. A UNESCO panel of experts recommended the establishment of an international scientific committee to arrange aid from donor nations to restore and preserve Iraq's cultural heritage damaged by war and subsequent looting.
